Who am I?
Hi I’m Anastasia Levashov, a 19 years old graphic design student at John Abbott College. I was always into drawing and photography. In fact, the reason why I got my iPad at 8 years old, was because I was spending too much time on my parents devices taking pictures of literally anything.
Unlike other colleges, at John Abbott, graphic and web design is a three-year program and we study both, print and web design. It prepares us with a complete and practical skill set. We start learning coding from the very first semester. We learn how to use all the software we will be using to design. For me they were all completely new. I didn’t know anything about them. Graphic design in general was completely new to me when I started.
Where I live?
I grew up in West Island in Dollard-des-Ormeaux. I have one sister and one brother and I am the oldest one. Compare to the rest of my family, I am very quiet and extremely shy but we are all artistic. I am the first one from my family who actually went to college to study graphic design.
I know and speak three languages. I studied in French in elementary and in high school. Then I went to an English college. John Abbott is pretty far from me if I would compare it to the high school and elementary school I went to.
I am usually attentive to details and a creative person. I am good at organizing my work and naming my files so I wouldn’t have to spend hours on finding it, which is a skill that a graphic designer is supposed to have. I have had this organization skill even before John Abbott but with other things, not files. I was the most organized one from my family.
Will I go to university?
I’m not sure whether I will go to university after graduating from John Abbott or not. Most likely not. I am not sure where I want to work. I haven’t thought of any place.
what kind of design specialties interest me ?
In terms of design specialties, I’m interested in designing for print more than for web. Web design was and still is hard for me. I’m still learning how to use all the software and print work was easier for me. So on stage in Winter 2028, I would prefer doing print design. I also didn’t think of any place where to do my stage. For the beginning, I don’t want to be a freelance graphic designer. Maybe later I will become one.
